VOLUNTEERING

The sanctuary runs on volunteers

Every year, more than 400 injured and sick animals come through our doors, from sea turtles to seals and seabirds. Give a few hours, learn from our animal care team and see the difference you make up close.

Be part of the rescue.

We're a not-for-profit. Our Animal Care Team is small, and the animals in rehabilitation need them around the clock. When volunteers prep food, clean, drive rescues or guide visitors, keepers get that time back for treatment and care.

  • Make a real difference. Your time goes straight into caring for rescued wildlife and keeping the Sanctuary running.
  • Learn from the experts. Work alongside the animal care staff
  • Join a community. Meet friendly, like-minded people who have conservation and animal care at heart.
  • Work Experience Program. We take a number of school based work experience students each year. See below for more info.

You don't need wildlife experience. You need to be reliable, and depending on the role, happy to get wet and dirty, and willing to follow directions.

our permanent residents

Meet the whole crew

Some injuries can't be rehabilitated to the point where an animal can survive in the wild.

Those animals either stay with us as permanent residents — non-releasable, not on display for entertainment — or, where quality of life can't be maintained, are humanely euthanised.

We say that plainly because it's part of the work, and because it's the reason releases matter as much as they do.
